TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- State Sen. Mandy Dawson was favored to win re-election, but a recent brush with the law could put the brakes on her campaign.
Dawson (pictured) was supposed to turn herself in on Thursday to face prescription drug charges. She did not.
Police say her problems started when she dropped her prescription for the painkiller Lorcet 10 off at a Publix pharmacy. A call to her doctor confirmed she had changed her prescription from 60 pills to 160, police say.
She's been charged with fraud. She still could keep her senate seat. Only a conviction would remove her. A conviction also carries a maximum sentence of five years behind bars.
